PG
department of Commerce and Management organised a national webinar on
amendments in income tax pre and post Covid-19 on 24 July 2020 on the eve of
Income Tax Investiture Day. The webinar was conducted online through the zoom
platform. Professor SK Madaan, academic director, GN Girls College, Patiala and
a permanant resource person to the Income Tax Dept. was the the keynote speaker for the program.
The
webinar was started with a welcome note by Principal Dr. Kiran Arora.
Introducing the topic Mrs. Alka Sharma, Head Dept. Of Commerce & Management
discussed as to why 24th July is celebrated as Income Tax Day.She also
highlighted the current issues relating to Income Tax that need clarity under
the present uncertain situation of Covid-19.
Prof.
S.K Madaan highlighted how this crisis has brought changes in the income tax
provisions.The webinar started with description of Sourcing Income for Foreign
Tax Credit computation purpose and how to take advantage of foreign Tax
Credit.He also talked about the tax benefits available to all and how to
understand the Taxation System in a better way.The main focus areas- the
amendments included changes in return filling dates and investment dates.He
gave useful tips on how an assesse can take advantage of Tax Benefits that are
available post Covid.
The
Webinar received an overwhelming response
attended by the academicians from different institutes all over India
and outside India from Bhutan and Oman. The webinar was hosted and technical
support was provided by co-convener Dr Kuljeet Kaur, Mrs Shikha Puri and Mrs
Kirti Kundra, Assistant Professors, Department of Commerce and Management. The
webinar was a step towards the preparedness after covid scenario. Principal Dr.Kiran Arora patron for
the webinar congratulated the department of Commerce for successful completion
of the webinar.
